Kindergarten CCSS: Language

For Kindergarteners, this Common Core area helps students gain mastery of the rules for using the English language, including vocabulary use and language conventions, in order to improve their skills as writers and readers. Those goals can be met with support and prompting. Among the complete standards for this grade, kindergarteners will be asked to: print upper- and lowercase letters, make words plural, use question words, capitalize ā€œIā€, spell simple words phonetically, make full sentences, understand some affixes, recognize and name end punctuation, identify new meaning for words they already know, explore relationships of words to the real world, to read aloud and responding to texts.
