Greek and Latin Root Words

Like the roots of a tree, root words provide the foundation of many English words. Prefixes, suffixes, or other root words add meaning to the root. If students understand the meaning of these different components, they get a clue to the meaning of the whole word. For example, tele-, a suffix meaning far, added to the root "graph" which means write, makes "telegraph". Telegraph is "far writing" or a way of communicating over distance. Our worksheets on root words are listed below. You may use them for free at home or in the classroom. Don't forget to check out all of our vocabulary worksheets!
