Spelling Rules Exceptions for ED and ING: Double the Consonant

About this Worksheet:

We add -ed and -ing to some words, such as verbs, to change the meaning a little. An exception to this is when a word with a short vowel sound is followed by one consonant. With these words, we usually double the final consonant before adding -ed or -ing. We don’t do this, however, if the word ends in an x. Use this worksheet to practice both in the classroom and at home!
