5th Grade CCSS: Reading: Foundational Skills
For fifth graders, this Common Core area helps students gain mastery of the concepts of print, the alphabet, and the basic conventions of the written English language. Among the complete standards for this grade, fifth graders will be asked to: use fifth grade appropriate phonics and word analysis skills to decode words, decode multi-syllable words with context clues, knowledge of all letter-sound correspondences, syllabic patterns and morphology (roots and suffixes), read fifth grade texts with the proper fluency, accuracy and understanding.
