1st Grade Speaking and Listening

For first graders, this Common Core area helps students gain mastery of speaking and listening skills related to the language arts. Collaborative work, oral presentations, and the ability to integrate media, digital tools and group projects are the cornerstones of this area. Among the complete standards for this grade, first graders will be asked to: participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners, build on others' talk in conversations by responding to the comments of others through multiple exchanges, ask and answer questions about key details in a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media, add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings, produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation.
