4th Grade CCSS: Speaking and Listening

For fourth graders, this Common Core area helps students gain mastery of speaking and listening skills related to the language arts. Collaborative work, oral presentations, and the ability to integrate media, digital tools and group projects are the cornerstones of this area. Among the complete standards for this grade, fourth graders will be asked to: participate in collaborative discussions well-prepared through research and reading while following standard rules of listening, asking questions, explaining their own ideas, and speaking on topic, be able to paraphrase materials read aloud or presented in media formats, including absorbing details, be able to provide oral reports on appropriate topics, create audio recordings or stories which might include visual displays, differentiate between situations that require formal and informal English.
